Since the birth of Western location theory, more than a hundred years have passed. With changes in enterprise systems and location environments, location theory researchers face many new problems to solve. In China, the shift from a planned economy to a market economy has made enterprises the main subjects of location selection. Therefore, the productivity, spatial layout, and location selection of modern enterprises are not only major macro-control issues of the government but also significant strategic decision-making issues for enterprises. This paper attempts to be guided by Marxist economic theory, analyzing and reviewing the recent research achievements of Western classical location theory, to theoretically elaborate on location issues such as the expansion of the scope of modern enterprise location selection, the spatial arrangement of enterprise organization structures, the dynamic changes in the orientation of enterprise location selection, the important forms of enterprise location agglomeration, the financial evaluation of enterprise location selection, and the changes in the main subjects of enterprise location selection in China. At the same time, it combines China's actual conditions to propose that the location selection and spatial layout adjustment of state-owned enterprises should be made an important part of the strategic adjustment of the state-owned economy. It elaborates on the direction of location selection and adjustment for state-owned enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises, and the countermeasures for the adjustment and revitalization of old industrial bases. It also proposes the requirements of spatial expansion for enterprises to enhance their competitiveness and analyzes the role of government macro-control in the location selection of enterprises.
