Features: After the basic stage of College English, translation courses are an important phase for improving English proficiency. With China's entry into the WTO, the demand for English application skills among college graduates has been increasing. More and more universities have introduced College English translation courses. This book serves as a textbook for such translation courses. The textbook has the following features:
1. Credit-based Curriculum Design. Considering the limited study hours of non-English majors, the textbook meticulously arranges practical and effective content, condensing English-Chinese and Chinese-English translation into 18 to 20 weeks of a semester. The textbook consists of 20 chapters, with 10 chapters dedicated to English-Chinese translation and 10 to Chinese-English translation. Teachers can make flexible arrangements based on their needs.
2. Emphasis on Practical Translation Techniques. Whether in the explanation of techniques or the selection of practice materials, the textbook balances comprehensiveness to help students build a solid foundation in translation and practicality to meet the post-graduation needs of non-English majors. It also aids students in preparing for relevant exams, such as the Shanghai and Beijing English Intermediate-High Level Interpretation Certificates, the National Postgraduate Entrance English Exam, and others.
3. Targeted Example Explanations. Each chapter introduces and explains a translation technique. The examples provided in the explanations are centered around the technique, with many being sentences from the pre-class preview and in-class exercises. Since these examples have just been translated, they retain a sense of freshness, making them more engaging for students.
4. Abundant and Appropriate Exercises. Translation is a practical activity of language conversion and a skill that requires continuous practice. Our teaching experience shows that mastering translation techniques and improving translation proficiency can only be achieved through hands-on practice with a large number of translations in various genres.
