Patient's question:
My son was born three days ago and his jaundice level went from 7 to 16. He is now hospitalized. His jaundice was already high when he was with me, and just after the doctor called, he mentioned that he vomited five times in the afternoon and even fainted. Because I have been taking care of him for three days, he has never vomited once before. Now, he is acting this way because when he was born, his head got stuck in my pelvis, and the forceps used to extract him caused a blood clot in his head. I am wondering what is going on. A head CT has not been done yet, but all other tests are normal. It's making my son want to eat but then vomit, leaving him hungry. I am so heartbroken.Doctor's answer:
Analysis of the condition:Hello, your child suddenly had severe vomiting, and there are two possible causes: 1) indigestion with gastrointestinal infection, which is more common in babies who swallowed a large amount of amniotic fluid at birth. 2) intracranial hemorrhage or cerebral edema with increased intracranial pressure. Since your baby had asphyxia and hypoxia at birth, both gastrointestinal infection and intracranial hypertension are possible.
If your baby has a scalp hematoma, a brain CT or MRI can be performed. It is recommended to do it as soon as possible.
Suggestions:
It is recommended to perform a brain CT or cranial MRI early to determine if there is any intracranial condition caused by inflammation and to treat it promptly.
