Stricken with misfortune, Liu He went to complete his marriage. His father-in-law, Huang, refused him entry. However, the Huang family’s daughter remained faithful to their engagement and walked thousands of miles, begging along the way, to marry Liu He. One day, Liu He and his wife discovered stacks of silver in a corner of an empty house. Liu He remembered that this was a pile of bricks by Gong Mengbi’s uncle years ago, and recalled the "burying silver" game he used to play with Gong Mengbi in his youth. He dug up tens of thousands of taels of silver from the ground. Inspired, Liu He devoted himself to studying and passed the imperial examination, becoming a jinshi.
"The Legend of Peng Haiqiu" originally appeared in Volume 5 of Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Peng Haogu, a scholar from Laizhou, felt lonely and invited Qiu Sheng for a drink under the moon. An unexpected guest arrived, claiming to be Peng Haiqiu. Peng Haogu invited him to join the celebration. Peng Haiqiu brought a beautiful woman to sing, and later invited them to admire the moon at West Lake in Hangzhou, a thousand miles away. Strange events occurred throughout the journey. Three years later, Peng Haogu arrived in Yangzhou and unexpectedly reunited with the same beauty. They happily reminisced, realizing that Peng Haiqiu was no ordinary mortal.
