Features: The problems brought about by the unlimited expansion of cities have now begun to manifest in China: traffic congestion, population explosion, and environmental pollution. Mr. Register offers an alternative interpretation of the "sustainable development strategy" in his book—that is, through reasonable urban planning and design to guide the evolution of the human ecosystem composed of towns and villages in a positive direction, providing the greatest development opportunities for all people and various cultures, so that human creativity can be fully unleashed and we can fully enjoy the beautiful environment bestowed by nature. He believes that the most significant task at present is the design, planning, and construction of Chinese cities. As human society and culture continue to progress, the destruction of the ecological environment we rely on has become increasingly severe, and our planet is facing unprecedented ecological degradation and landscape fragmentation. As an internationally renowned urban design expert and ecological activist, Mr. Register attempts to slow down or even end this catastrophe through reasonable urban planning and design. This idea is fully reflected in this book. The author is striving to explore a feasible method to reverse or halt this terrible catastrophe, guiding the human ecosystem composed of towns and villages toward a positive evolution. This book holds significant reference value for China, which is currently undergoing large-scale urban investment and construction. It helps us learn from the experiences of industrialized countries and make wise choices between car cities and eco-cities, mechanical cities and humane cities, allowing us to catch up and surpass.
