The book provides a detailed introduction to the PowerTier development environment. The book is divided into two parts: the Programming Techniques Part and the Modeling Tools Guide Part.
The Programming Techniques Part consists of 23 chapters and one appendix, covering the following main content: preliminary programming with PowerTier for EJB, design and development processes, using PowerTier development tools, understanding JNDI, working with entity beans, locating entity objects, planning transactions, writing transaction logic, coordinating transaction execution, customizing entity beans, writing session beans, configuring PowerTier servers, extending PowerTier servers, handling exceptions, managing PowerTier cache, event logging, managing database operations, cache synchronization, using JNDI, load balancing, providing fault recovery support, writing PowerTier client programs, and extending within a product system.
The Modeling Tools Guide Part is divided into four sections, consisting of 12 chapters and three appendices. The main content includes:
- Part "Introduction" introduces the concepts and information related to developing with various modeling tools.
- Part "Using PowerTier ObjectBuilder" explains how to model relational data using PowerTier ObjectBuilder and generate source code.
- Part "Using PowerObjectBuilderLink for Rose" covers how to model relational data using PowerTier ObjectBuilderLink for Rose and generate source code.
- Appendices provide background material on using PowerTier development tools.
