Why is the baby not answering back at four months old?

Patient's question:

Still not speaking, occasionally calls out "Mom," but it's not very clear yet. If you teach him to speak, he will smile at you. He seems to understand what you say, always saying "ah, ah, ah."
Past Treatment and Effects: When he was born, the doctor checked his tongue and said it was fine.
Help Needed: What tests should I take my child for, and how should I guide him to speak?

Doctor's answer:

A 4-month-old baby still won't respond in words.
A 3- to 6-month-old baby still won't respond in words. This is a normal phenomenon.
By the age of 7 or 8 months, children generally begin to enter the babbling stage, where they start repeating sounds, including the combination of initial consonants and final vowels. Words like "" (Dad) and "" (Mom) may also appear. However, this stage is not yet the point where they truly begin to learn to say words.
By the time they are over 1 year old, they start entering the phase of a "vocabulary explosion," where they suddenly start saying many words.
