Features: This collection, akin to a "kaleidoscope," introduces readers to the vibrant Chinese community in Texas, particularly the diverse and rising Chinese diaspora in this fertile land. It serves as a bridge for mutual spiritual exchange. As time passes, if this work were to fade into oblivion, it would not only be a loss for the author but also for the readers. Mr. Lao Jing, undeterred by the effort, meticulously compiled this collection, achieving a rare brilliance. It stands as a gem in the North American Chinese literary scene and a blessing for readers, truly commendable.
The first part, "Texas Treasures," is a chapter that readers must read with deep concentration. Every piece is engaging, filled with gems. The "News Commentary" and "News Events" sections are written with gravitas, addressing matters close to reality. The author timely expresses sincere praise for those who tirelessly foster friendship and promote Chinese culture, cheering them on with vigor. In the "News Figures" section, whether the interviewee is a renowned artistic master or a business pioneer, the author avoids dwelling on their glorious achievements, instead forging a unique path to explore their life journeys and inner worlds, allowing readers to see a more profound and thought-provoking life, benefiting greatly from it.
The second part, "Chasing Stars," is a must-read for sports enthusiasts, especially the young. The author provides a detailed and vivid account of the "Yao Wind" and "Yao Fever" stirred by the "Little Giant" Yao Ming's move to the NBA, making readers feel as if they are witnessing the scene firsthand, with their chuckles echoing those of the crowd.
The third part, "Chronicles in Ink," is a song of friendship between the Chinese and American people. The long-form report, "Heart Tied to the, Soul Returns to Homeland," is a work of that the author personally participated in. Mr. Fox, an American pilot, sacrificed his life for China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and was honored by both heads of state and governments. His 60-year journey home celebrates the sincere friendship and noble hearts of the two peoples, offering a lasting lesson: China and the United States must cooperate to create a better future for humanity.
As a participant in some of the events in the book, I have written this piece at the author's request, hoping to serve as a stepping stone for others. I sincerely hope readers will take note.
