Carl Czerny, born on February 21, 1791, in Vienna, Austria, and died on July 15, 1857, in the same city. He studied piano with Beethoven from the age of 9 to 12. Starting from the age of 14, he began composing and teaching piano. He was not only a pianist but also an active composer and an excellent piano teacher. He meticulously studied the teaching methods of Hummel and Clementi, and Liszt was a highly talented student under their tutelage. He was a prolific composer whose works, deeply influenced by Beethoven, possessed his own unique style and techniques. He wrote at least 24 masses, 4 requiems, as well as symphonies, overtures, concertos, sonatas, chamber music, choral works, and other genres, totaling over 1,000 compositions. Additionally, he adapted many operas, oratorios, and overtures by other composers into excellent piano pieces. Among them are the famous eight-hand piano duet based on the overtures of Rossini's operas Semiramide and William Tell. He was a composer who wrote a great number of piano etudes, and nearly 80 of his etudes are frequently selected by piano students. These etudes are highly valuable piano teaching materials and have been widely adopted by music schools around the world for many years.
