The failure of the fifth anti-"encirclement" campaign forced the Central Red Army to leave their Jiangxi base and embark on a long and arduous journey. The bloody Battle of Xiangjiang cost the Red Army tens of thousands of casualties, but the flowing blooded a turning point. After the conference, the Red Army turned toward Guizhou, crossed the Wujiang River, and cleverly captured Zunmi, where they seized a historic opportunity.
After Mao Zedong regained military command, he led the Red Army through the four crossings of the Chishui River, crossed the Jinsha River and Dadu River, climbed the Snow Mountains, and traversed the grasslands, finally arriving in Shaanxi with a victory. Soon after, they launched an eastward campaign.
