Features: Although jazz in New York and other major international cities in the USA has developed more extravagantly and intricately in various genres, New Orleans jazz still remains simple and close to the roots of jazz. Therefore, the composers of this collection of pieces intentionally selected three fundamental examples: "New Orleans Twilight," a true blues-style piece; "Dixieland Little Jazz Band," a light-hearted and humorous piece that presents the style of the early 1920s; and "Frankie and Johnny," a folk song arrangement with strong rhythms and bold, unrestrained characteristics. The 15 piano pieces in this book are written specifically for intermediate-level piano students. The authors believe that every student's musical education must include exposure to a variety of different styles of popular music, including jazz, as an important and repeated practice phase for the student. If students have a desire to compose, they should also be encouraged to improvise away from the sheet music, as improvisation is a fundamental element of jazz style.
