How to treat a baby biting the nipple while breastfeeding

Patient's question:

My newborn baby has only been with me for a few weeks, and he keeps biting my wife's nipple while breastfeeding. Is this a natural neurological deficiency, or is he just upset about the change in his diaper environment and biting the nipple? Since birth, he has been biting the nipple. Doctor's answer:

Usually, when a child is sucking correctly, the lower lip will curl outward, and that is the correct way. Also, don't let the child tilt their head; instead, let it be slightly tilted backward for a smoother feeding. If the child just won't open their mouth, gently use the nipple to encourage their lower lip to open until they take it in quickly. If the latch isn't correct, use your finger to press between their lips, gently press on their lower jaw, or hold them close with your breast covering their nose to force the baby to open their mouth, then re-latch.
Advice: Except for one possibility—if the baby always makes sucking noises while feeding, it might be that there's a tight connection somewhere in their tongue. You should regularly use your finger to press down on their tongue.
