Complete Yuan Wen Volume 15

Author: Li Xiusheng (Editor)
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1999-10-01
Features: This book aims to collect Han Chinese single-paragraph prose, parallel prose, and rhymed literature (excluding poetry, qu and ci) from the Yuan Dynasty. The time frame for the writers included in this book is generally based on the Jin Dynasty and the Southern Song Dynasty. Writers from the original Jin territory are considered up to the year 1234 (the third year of the reign of Jin Aizong). Writers from the original Southern Song territory are considered up to the year 1279 (the second year of the reign of Southern Song Zhao Xing). The lower limit is set at the year 1368 (the twenty-eighth year of the reign of Yuan Shundi). Writers who entered the Yuan Dynasty from the Jin or Song Dynasties, or entered the Ming Dynasty from the Yuan Dynasty, and whose main activities took place during the Yuan Dynasty, are included as Yuan writers. Following the principle of "letting the text follow the person," all works of the writers already included are collected regardless of whether they were written during the Yuan Dynasty. For the Confucian classics, history, philosophy, and literary works of Yuan scholars, this book generally only includes prefaces, postfaces, and single-paragraph Yuan texts cited in the works. However, collections that can be considered as anthologies, such as memorial essays in the history section, historical essays, and judgment collections in the philosophy section, are still included as anthologies. For the convenience of readers, the book is organized according to the old-style compilation method, with each volume containing about 10,000 words of text. Writers with more works are divided into multiple volumes, while those with fewer works are grouped together in one volume. The Yuan texts included in this book are as far as possible based on good and complete editions. The main text follows the original edition. If there are indeed errors in the original edition, they are corrected and annotated. For general variations, annotations are not provided. Annotations are appended at the end of each piece. Minor errors in stroke writing that are clearly due to printing mistakes are corrected. For each writer included in this book, a short biography is written, briefly introducing their name, courtesy name, title, posthumous name, birth and death years, place of origin, official career, main activities, writings, and the inclusion of their works in this book, along with the sources of the historical materials used. To facilitate readers' reference, in addition to the index of each volume, an appendix at the end of the book includes the "Author Index of Complete Yuan Texts," the "Title Index of Complete Yuan Texts," and the "Bibliography of Works Cited Outside of Anthologies."
