Patient's question:
Nasal discharge, high fever of 38°C, cough for two days. Previous treatment and effectiveness: Yesterday, the child had a slightly red tonsil, cough for two days, and started having a high fever of 38°C yesterday afternoon. The doctor administered 80mg of Ganoderma lucidum and 3g of cefotaxime sodium intravenously, in addition to oral administration of vitamin C and honeysuckle tablets. The fever has subsided, but the cough persists. Are these medications effective? Could the dosage be too high? How many days should they be used? Thank you!Doctor's answer:
Cefotaxime sodium is a third-generation semi-synthetic cephalosporin with a broader spectrum of antibacterial activity than cefuroxime, exhibiting stronger efficacy against Gram-negative bacteria. Its antibacterial spectrum includes Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Neisseria, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus, and others. In clinical diagnosis, it is primarily used to treat various infections caused by sensitive bacteria, such as respiratory tract infections, infections of the (five senses), abdominal cavity, biliary tract, meningitis, gonorrhea, urinary tract infections, and sepsis. For children, the daily dosage is 100–150 mg/kg, divided into 2–4 doses; for newborns, the daily dosage is 50 mg/kg, also divided into 2–4 doses.
