Features: This book is one of the "Twentieth-Century Chinese Historical Classics," a collection of essays on Chinese cultural relics and archaeological research. It selects works published in the 20th century that had a significant impact on the development of history at the time or later, meaning they held an important position in the development of Chinese history in the 20th century. It aims to systematically showcase the achievements of history in this century and present the works of the most representative historians to readers. The Ancient History of China, also known as The History of China Textbook, is a work that narrates the history of China in stages using the modern historical perspective. It adopts a new chapter structure, dividing the book into parts, chapters, and sections. Before the main text, there are an Introduction, Preface, or remarks. The book includes historical tables, making complex historical events clear and highlighting key points. The notes in the book indicate the sources of the cited materials for easy reference by readers. Xia Zengyou pioneered a new trend in history, and his historical works can be said to be the earliest of the changes in history in our century. He explored historical perspectives, the handling of historical materials, and the compilation of historical books, and reflected his explorations in his own historical works. His achievements in history were limited to a certain extent, due to both historical reasons and the flaws in his own thinking. The New Middle School Chinese History Textbook consists of three volumes, two parts, and four chapters, totaling 170 sections (from ancient times to the Sui Dynasty). The original plan was to write five volumes, but only three were actually completed. The first volume was first published in the 30th year of the Guangxu reign (1904), and the sixth edition was published in the 32nd year of the Guangxu reign (1906). The second and third volumes were first published in the same year, and were published five times in the first year of the Xuantong reign (1909). In 1933, the Commercial Press published a university textbook, included in the University Series, and renamed it The Ancient History of China. In addition, there are works such as A Brief Catalog of Rare Books in the Beijing Library, On the Relationship Between China and Japan, and On the Importance of History in the Reform. Most of these articles were published in periodicals such as The Minxin Zongbao and The Dongfang Zhoukan.
