As everyone knows, marriage is the vital backbone of life, the starting point for all our living. A happy marriage leads to a fulfilling family and a satisfying career. However, despite its great importance, there is limited professional knowledge about marriage, and few good books are available on the subject. When people face marital problems, they often don't know how to handle them or how to seek expert counseling. Marriage therapy is a specialized form of professional counseling tailored to couples facing marital issues. The couples receiving counseling are often well-adjusted adults in society, but they have deviations in their relationship dynamics and require guidance. It can be said that this is a very much-needed mental health service in modern society. To thoroughly understand marital issues and prepare for counseling or treatment, it is essential to first grasp the nature of the marital relationship, understand how couples marry, how they interact with each other, and how they face various challenges at different stages of marriage. Therefore, this book first analyzes the psychology of marriage and the dynamics of couples' relationships, discussing common psychological issues in marriage, and then introduces various models of marriage therapy and counseling principles. The writing of this book aims to be both profound and accessible, easy to understand. To meet practical needs, it incorporates case analyses and discussions. Many of the cases were provided by Professor Lü Qiuyun from the Peking University Institute of Mental Health, and one case was contributed by Chief Physician Wang Ruwen from the Jingzhou Mental Hospital in Hubei Province. These examples have been thoroughly discussed in detail over the years by the authors in psychotherapy training programs. Each case has been carefully modified to conceal the private backgrounds of the individuals involved. Special thanks are due to Professor Lü and Chief Physician Wang for their strong support and assistance.
We hope this book will help people build happier and more fulfilling marital lives.
