Infant jaundice over 300, is it serious?

Patient's question:

The child just born doesn't know what's wrong, there are always red spots on their body, and they are spitting up milk. Please ask if a baby with jaundice over 300 is serious

Doctor's answer:

In your case, it may be physiological jaundice. Physiological jaundice is mild when it appears pale yellow, limited to the face and neck, or may affect the trunk, with sclera also becoming yellowish. It usually subsides within 2 to 3 days and the skin color returns to normal by the 5th to 6th day. In severe cases, jaundice can start from the head and spread to the feet, affecting the entire body. Vomiting and cerebrospinal fluid may also turn yellow, with the duration lasting more than a week. In some premature infants, it may persist for up to 4 weeks, with the stool still remaining yellow and no bilirubin in the urine. It is recommended to use blue light therapy, which can be effective.
