Features: Water Margin, a Ming Dynasty chaptered novel, also known as Water Margin of Loyal and Righteous Heroes, is one of China's four great classical literary masterpieces. The Hundred Rivers Catalogue states: "The original by Shi Nai'an of Qiantang, compiled by Luo Guanzhong." This is widely recognized by academia. The book primarily depicts the peasant uprising led by figures such as Song Jiang and Chao Gai, profoundly revealing the social contradictions of late Northern Song Dynasty and the internal reasons for the uprising's eventual failure. The central theme is that chaos arises from the top, and officials force the people to rebel. In the late Northern Song Dynasty, the ruling group led by Emperor Huizong, cruelly persecuted loyal officials and brought disaster upon the nation. A group of heroic figures, unable to serve their country, had no choice but to lead uprisings, seize mountains, and oppose the government. Through Song Jiang's connections, the heroes gathered at Mount Liang, where they had been forced to flee. Lin Chong, who had been driven to Mount Liang, fought and killed Wang Lun, the white-robed scholar, and later, Chao Gai, who had escaped to Mount Liang after seizing the birthday gift, was elected as the leader. They raised the banner of "Upholding Heaven's Way" to oppose the Song Dynasty, causing nightmares and fear among the rulers. After Song Jiang killed Yan Po Xi, he was exiled to Jiangzhou. Drunk, he wrote a rebellious poem, which led to his execution. Chao Gai led the heroes to rescue Song Jiang from the execution ground, and only then did Song Jiang wholeheartedly join Mount Liang. After Chao Gai's death, the heroes elected Song Jiang as their leader. However, under the suppression and temptation of the ruling class, Song Jiang was eventually reconciled, turning the large rebel army of Mount Liang into a tool for suppressing another peasant uprising. Most of the 108 heroes perished in battle, and Song Jiang himself was betrayed and killed by treacherous officials. The grand peasant uprising ended in tragedy.
