Features: The Zizhi Tongjian was compiled by Sima Guang of the Northern Song Dynasty, comprising a total of 294 volumes. Its content primarily focuses on politics and military affairs, with relatively less emphasis on economy and culture. The sources include not only the "Seventeen Histories" but also 222 other works such as unofficial histories, biographies, collected essays, and genealogies. The title Zizhi (meaning "to govern by learning from the past") was chosen to provide feudal rulers with lessons from the rise and fall of dynasties throughout history. The entire work covers 1,362 years of historical events, offering a systematic and comprehensive resource for historical research. Mao Zedong's annotated original edition was a 32-page paperback set of 20 volumes of the Zizhi Tongjian published by the Ancient Books Publishing House in 1956. For convenience in reading and collection, this edition has been reproduced as a large 32-page deluxe hardcover set of 10 volumes.
