Features: With the rapid development of the network economy and information technology, as well as the swift progress of science and technology, enterprises are striving to enhance their competitiveness, which is the only way to ensure survival and growth. Project management is a reflection of this historical requirement. Forbes magazine believes that project management will become a trend in the 21st century, becoming a core component of modern social and enterprise management, and a primary form of organizational and management practices. Project management initially emerged in the 1950s and has rapidly developed since the late 20th century, now being widely applied in fields such as management, psychology, architecture, law, and finance. Modern project management operates in an open environment, providing a powerful organizational management form for project implementation, pioneering a completely new management field, a systematic body of knowledge, and a series of scientific project management methods. The content of modern project management can be broadly summarized into three points: First, the modernization of management philosophy. The object of project management is a system composed of interrelated elements, and management must be approached from the perspective of the overall system. Second, the modernization of management organization. Project management adopts an open system model, using scientific regulations and systems to standardize organizational behavior, defining organizational functions and goals, coordinating the relationships between the internal and external aspects of the management organization, and improving its operational efficiency. Third, the modernization of management methods and tools. Project management applies mathematical models, computer technology, and management experience, combining quantitative and qualitative analysis, implementing systematic, networked, and automated project management processes, thereby enhancing the scientificity and effectiveness of project management. Currently, project management in China is still in its early stages of development. Neither the research nor the practical application of project management has reached a certain level, and there is a significant gap compared to international management standards. However, in the era of a market economy, the improvement of project management capabilities is inevitable, and project management is indeed highly effective. We must recognize the importance of modern project management from a strategic perspective and continuously improve and refine the systems and methods of project management.
Abroad, project management education is comprehensive, meeting the diverse needs of people at various levels. However, in China, there is a focus only on educating professional project management personnel, neglecting the popularization of education, which has lost the social foundation for the widespread implementation of project management and has hindered its effective execution. Based on this, the China General Manager's Handbook·Project Handbook is not only aimed at corporate management, but also includes project management professionals, as well as teachers, students, and others. Its purpose is to enhance the project management literacy of the entire population, which is also the original intention behind writing this book. During the writing process, we referred to a large number of domestic and foreign books on project management, striving to be up-to-date, scientific, effective, concise, and easy to understand.
