Features: 21st Century College English is a highly contemporary college English textbook with strong timeliness. It features engaging, informative, thought-provoking, and forward-looking content, standardized and practical language, and diverse styles. Due to its broad scope of knowledge and the fact that most of the texts are selected from British and American publications from the 1980s and 1990s, students often find the material challenging and struggle with learning it. To help students and self-learners better understand and master this textbook, we have developed its companion study guide, 21st Century College English Study Manual. The manual consists of four volumes, each corresponding to the respective volumes of the original textbook. It is organized according to the lesson structure of the original material, with each unit comprising the following six sections:
1. Background Knowledge Related to the Text: Annotations in English are provided for names, places, and allusions mentioned in the text. This approach not only expands students' knowledge but also enhances their English reading skills.
2. Vocabulary/Grammar/Phrases: In the vocabulary section, new words from the text are annotated with example sentences, helping students better comprehend the material while reducing the need to constantly consult dictionaries.
3. Feedback Tests: Divided into three parts—multiple choice, cloze, and error correction.
4. Detailed Explanations of Tests: Provides in-depth explanations for each question in the feedback tests.
5. Answers to Text Exercises: Offers answers to the exercises in the original material. For some unfamiliar words in the vocabulary exercises, Chinese translations are provided.
6. Text Translation: All three texts in each unit are translated into Chinese. The translations prioritize accuracy while striving for fluency, clarity, and ease of understanding, aiding students in better comprehending the texts.
