Features: The study of the impact of air pollution on human health is one of the hot and cutting-edge topics internationally. Children, being in the period of growth and development, are the most sensitive population to indoor and outdoor air pollution. There have been numerous reports on the effects of air pollution exposure on children's respiratory health and lung function development in foreign countries, but the results vary greatly. The reasons are the low concentration of air pollutants, short observation periods, and high population mobility, making it difficult to establish an exposure dose-response relationship. Scientists from China and the United States believe that the large gradient changes in urban air pollutant concentrations in China make it an ideal "natural exposure laboratory." This study selected four cities—Guangzhou, Wuhan, Lanzhou, and Chongqing—and chose one heavily polluted primary school in the urban area and one relatively clean primary school in the suburban area in each city, totaling eight primary schools for a five-year comprehensive investigation.
