Author: Lin Guoxian
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2001-11-01
Features: This book includes a total of 18 papers. These are part of the author's achievements in teaching, research, and project work from 1994 to 2001. Some of the papers have been published in various academic journals at the national level (7 of them were published in journals sponsored by national academic societies), while the other papers are newly written and unpublished. Although the book is formally an anthology of papers, its content is entirely focused on institutions and institutional change. It covers major topics in the institutional transformation of rural and agricultural systems and also addresses some important theoretical issues in China's market-oriented reforms. In terms of structure, it is not only well-organized but also follows a certain system. Therefore, the book serves as both an anthology of papers and a monograph. The main content of the book is divided into two parts:
1. The part on the institutional transformation of rural and agricultural systems, which studies major issues in the reform and development of rural and agricultural systems from an institutional perspective. This part has a larger proportion of papers, totaling 14, and forms the core and main body of the book. Its content includes: agricultural land systems, agricultural technology, household registration systems, farmers' rights and interests, rural taxes and fees, agricultural structure, rural markets, agricultural systems, agricultural growth models, farmers entering the market, urbanization, townshipization, township enterprises, and forestry economy, among others.
2. The part on the basic theories of institutions and institutional change, which studies major theoretical and practical issues in China's reform and development from an institutional perspective. This part has a smaller proportion of papers, totaling only 4, and also represents the author's attempt over the years to study Marxian institutional theory and engage with Western new institutional economics.
