Features: Bookbinding and sample design are two major fields of modern graphic design. Studying the design principles and developmental history of these areas holds significant importance for the advancement of modern graphic design. Creation and accumulation grow proportionally. The accumulation of design is reflected in two aspects: 1. Design concepts; 2. Various design expression methods and their corresponding styles. Bookbinding design is an extremely ancient form of graphic design. In its earliest period, humans used graphics and graphic texts on paper, bamboo slips, and clay tablets to record, express their understanding and feelings about the world, and convey various messages, giving rise to the initial concept of design. The ancient Egyptians organically combined various illustrations and texts to create symmetrical or asymmetrical layout styles, becoming the earliest source of book design. The writing style of Chinese bamboo slips not only had a decisive influence on the unique book design style of China but also continuously dominated the rapid development of various design styles in modern China. The Middle Ages was a special period of historical development, where decoration became the dominant design element and an inseparable obsession for designers. In Europe, people drew gold and silver on parchment paper and hand-wrote magnificent Bibles. Exquisite patterns adorned every page, and delicate illustrations made the books true works of art. This book showcases some of the latest and outstanding examples of bookbinding and sample design, opening a window to the world for us. In these designs, we can often see the shadows of various historical design concepts and styles, as well as the understanding and thoughts of today's world-renowned designers about design. The development of design is a one-dimensional drive—today's style is an extension of yesterday's, and tomorrow's design will undoubtedly be an evolution of today's. It is hoped that the publication of this book will play a beneficial role in the advancement of design development and design education.
