Features: The Theory of Deception starts by examining the characteristics of deception and explicitly defines what it is: a trap that uses fabricated facts and conceals the truth to lure people into being cheated for unlawful gain or advantage. It then elaborates in detail on the types and methods of deception, enabling outsiders to gain a profound understanding. Liu Shuiqing strives to explain deception with scientific theory, analyze it with a critical spirit, and empirically demonstrate it through typical cases. In today's era of market economy, sincerity devalues and morality declines compared to the planned economy era. Deception has become more prevalent, making it essential to understand and expose it. As the saying goes, "Do no harm, but be wary of others"—reading The Theory of Deception will help you stay alert and avoid falling into traps, which is worthwhile. The Theory of Deception reveals the characteristics of deception, analyzes the psychological mechanisms of "deceivers," and categorically dissects various forms of deception, aiming to enhance people's "immunity" against deception in all its forms. The book is divided into three parts: Part "Definition of Deception" analyzes the "characteristics of deception" and "types of deception," describing the evolution of deception from a historical perspective; Part "Structure of Deception" examines the subject, object, purpose, etc., of deception; and Part "Identification and Prevention of Deception" provides practical methods for recognizing and avoiding deception from a standpoint of practice. The author defines "deception" as "a trap that uses fabricated facts and conceals the truth to lure people into being cheated for unlawful gain or advantage." This fundamentally reveals people's basic understanding of deception. Why does deception exist? Because someone wants to obtain unlawful gain through improper means. There is a distinction between "legal" and "illegal" interests, as well as between "just" and "unjust" methods. Deception, however, is the act of using improper means to acquire unlawful gain. The evaluation of such behavior has both ethical and legal dimensions, but regardless of the perspective, it reflects people's value inclinations. Therefore, attitudes toward deception reflect a public social psychology. If people reject deception with a mindset of seeking truth and reality, and if certain legal provisions encourage the exposure of deception, society will move in a healthy direction, avoiding the existence of a society plagued by deception, as Lu Xun once vehemently criticized. In reality, from a social perspective, "deception" is a social phenomenon. However, once people conduct in-depth analyses of individual instances of deception, they can recognize that deception stems from a deep-seated social psychology. From the numerous cases of deception listed in The Theory of Deception, we can see that many successful deceptions are closely tied to the unhealthy or immature psychology of the victims. Therefore, from the perspective of psychological origins, we can even say that "deception" is a battle of minds. This aligns with what Liu Shuiqing stated in the Preface of the book: "Deception is the product of the 'close collaboration' between deceivers and victims. From ancient to modern times, from east to west, there is no exception." Despite the variety of deceptive methods, the success of many deceptions often relies on exploiting the "naivety" or "desire for free gain" of the victims. From this perspective, the existence of deception largely depends on an unhealthy public social psychology. Consequently, from a psychological mechanism standpoint, deception can be considered a psychological disorder.
