Additionally, to meet the learning needs of candidates, the center organized the compilation of a series of examination textbooks. The "National English Proficiency Test Syllabus" and the "National English Proficiency Test Textbook" series are exclusively published and distributed by Higher Education Press under the authorization of the Ministry of Education National Education Examination Center. The National English Proficiency Test (Public English Test System,PETS) is a nationwide English proficiency examination system designed and managed by the Ministry of Education National Education Examination Center. PETS is China's only multi-level authoritative English testing system for all citizens, with no restrictions on age, occupation, or level of education. People can choose to take any level of the examination based on their English proficiency. PETS A consists of two relatively independent assessment components: written and oral tests, comprehensively examining candidates' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Qualified candidates are awarded corresponding English proficiency certificates to meet the needs of English ability assessment and talent markets in society. The standards for the PETS Level 2 and Level 4 examinations are used to reform the current college entrance examinations and postgraduate entrance examinations in English. The PETS Level 2 and Level 3 examinations are respectively used to replace the public English examinations in college-credit self-study programs for associate and bachelor's degrees. The PETS Level 5 examination has replaced the English examination in the National Foreign Language Proficiency Test (WSK·EPT).
