Features: The MCS-51 series microcontrollers and their compatible devices have a wide range of users in China, which is related to the early introduction of Intel's 8-bit microcontrollers. Currently, among the microcontroller books published in China, the MCS-51 series remains the primary focus. Additionally, the hardware architecture of MCS-51 determines that its instruction set will not change, making it easier for designers to select microcontroller products from different companies. They only need to focus on comparing the internal resources of the chips. Currently, in the Chinese market, Intel's MCS-51 series microcontrollers are rarely seen, replaced by compatible microcontrollers from other companies such as Philips, Dallas, Siemens, AMD, Atmel, NEC, Harris, WinBond, YHUNDAI, and ADI. Among these, Philips, Dallas, Atmel, WinBond, YHUNDAI, and ADI hold the largest market share. The MCS-51 series compatible microcontrollers developed by the above companies each have their own unique features, with significant differences in internal resources and varying improvements over the original MCS-51 core. Each company has incorporated its proprietary technologies into these microcontrollers. For example, Atmel, a company with a large user base, produces the MCS-51 series compatible microcontroller—the AT89 series—by integrating the company's FLASH memory technology into the original MCS-51 core. Given that no comprehensive and systematic works on MCS-51 series compatible microcontrollers have been published in China yet, we have systematically summarized our experience accumulated from teaching and research over the years, along with some research achievements, and written this book after referring to the latest materials from domestic and international manufacturers, to serve a broad readership. To make this book a complete reference for product development, it first introduces the principles of the standard MCS-51 series microcontroller, then summarizes the products of MCS-51 series compatible microcontrollers from various companies, and provides an in-depth explanation of the principles of typical products. For a long time, the MCS-51 series microcontroller has dominated the domestic microcontroller market, but in recent years, many internationally renowned semiconductor manufacturers have been competing to launch MCS-51 compatible microcontrollers with distinctive features, which have also been favored by a broad domestic user base. From a practical perspective, after systematically and comprehensively explaining the working principles of the CPU and peripherals, as well as the instruction set of the MCS-51 series microcontroller, this book focuses on systematically and comprehensively summarizing the popular MCS-51 compatible microcontrollers in China and conducting an in-depth analysis of the functions of several typical products. The book consists of six chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the working principles of the CPU and peripherals of the standard MCS-51 series microcontroller, Chapter 2 explains the instruction set and the use of assemblers/linkers, and Chapters 3 to 6 respectively summarize the MCS-51 compatible microcontrollers developed by Atmel, Philips, Dallas, and WinBond, while providing an in-depth analysis of ten or so typical products with significant influence in China. This book features innovative concepts, extensive information, a logical progression from specific details to broader contexts, and comprehensive integration, making it scientifically sound, cutting-edge, and highly practical. It can serve as a reference tool for various electronic technicians, as well as for university teachers, students, and electronics enthusiasts.
