Features: Over the past forty years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the work of (organizing and publishing ancient books) has achieved remarkable accomplishments under the leadership and care of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. To reflect the general situation of this work over these forty years, we have specially compiled and printed a catalog of ancient books published from 1949 to 1991 for the reference of relevant professional workers and publishers. The period covered by the books included in this catalog is from October 1949 to December 1991. To fully reflect the actual state of ancient book publication, the catalog includes not only works in the fields of literature, history, and philosophy but also calligraphy and painting art, as well as medical books, agricultural books, and scientific and technological works. A selection of ancient books translated into Chinese by ethnic minorities are also included. The ancient books collected in this catalog generally include: 1. Works published before the 1911 Revolution. 2. Works on ancient books published after the 1911 Revolution, including annotated, corrected, and translated editions. 3. Reference books related to ancient books. Monographs on ancient books by modern scholars that fall within the scope of academic research are not included in this catalog for the time being. Some popular illustrations and children's books based on ancient books, as well as calligraphy, paintings, and stone inscriptions, are also not included. To facilitate an understanding of the annual progress of ancient book since the founding of the People's Republic of China, we have arranged the catalog by year. At the end of the book, all titles are arranged by four-corner number index, allowing readers to not only grasp the general situation of each stage of ancient book but also locate specific titles by their publication date and month. Within each year, the order of titles is generally as follows: literature (general collections of poems and prose, individual collections, ci and qu poetry, fiction, drama, literary theory, reference books), linguistics and writing, history (basic historical texts, historical notes, historical theory, geography, reference books), philosophy (philosophical works of different dynasties, military books, Buddhism, Taoism and the Taoist sect, reference books), calligraphy and painting art, comprehensive references (encyclopedias, series, textual criticism, book collection annotations, reading notes), medical, agricultural, and scientific and technological works. If a book is published in both bound and paperback formats, only one format is generally listed. Reprinted books (including revised and rearranged editions) are generally not listed again; if the same book is published by different publishers under different names (including some cases where different publishers are actually the same institution), the publisher's name and publication date are recorded under the original edition. If multiple books are combined into one volume or if a catalog includes several other ancient books, they are all listed as one title in the catalog. In the count of titles, all such cases are treated as one title, and this is noted here. For titles published before 1981, the catalog is based on the "Catalog of Ancient Book Organization and Publishing from 1949 to 1981" compiled by the Ancient Book Organization and Publishing Planning Group, with minor revisions and additions. For the period from 1982 to 1991, card materials were provided by the Reference Room of the China Version Library (Ms. Wu Surong organized the preliminary compilation and editing), and some colleagues from Zhonghua Book Company were invited to review and categorize the titles, as well as to compile the four-corner number index. We extend our gratitude to the colleagues of the China Version Library and Zhonghua Book Company. Ancient books published in Taiwan and Hong Kong have not been included in this catalog this time. We hope to organize manpower in the future to collect materials and supplement the catalog for these regions. Due to the urgency of the task and incomplete data, there may be omissions, repetitions, or improper arrangements. We welcome your corrections.
