Patient's question:
Patient Gender: My son Zhi Fei is 7 years old this year and has developmental delays. Weight: 16 kg. Up to now, he cannot control nighttime urination and frequently wets the bed. Despite multiple wake-up reminders, there has been no improvement. I don't know why? Looking forward to your reply!Doctor's answer:
It is well known that bedwetting is a very common phenomenon in infants and young children. If a child is still unable to control urination during the day or cannot wake up from sleep to urinate after the age of three, it is referred to as primary enuresis. The exact cause of enuresis is still not completely clear, and it is believed to be related to the following factors:(1) Genetic factors: Enuresis has a genetic tendency.
(2) Deep sleep: This is a relatively common factor. Children with this condition often play excessively fatigued before bed, sleep very deeply, and are difficult to wake up. They also tend to wet the bed during dreams. If they drink a lot before bed, it is even more likely to occur.
(3) Delayed bladder maturation: Some children with enuresis have bladders that are smaller than normal. These children urinate more frequently but in smaller amounts. This is because when there is little urine in the bladder, it contracts and causes urination.
(4) Psychological stress
(5) Medical factors: Cases of enuresis caused by organic diseases are relatively rare. Urinary tract infections, abnormalities, and conditions such as spina bifida and meningocele can lead to enuresis. Additionally, asymptomatic bacteriuria and hypercalciuria can also cause enuresis and should be noted.
