Features: The manuscript is complete, yet writing it leaves one lost. Time and space intertwine, the world bears the weight of ages. Unveiling long-forgotten memories, reliving lost youth—plants and trees know sorrow, and prime youth turns white. Can one not be moved? Can one not feel ashamed of one's own mediocrity? Song Meiling was an important figure in China during the 20th century. To record the facts and restore her true character is undoubtedly meaningful, but whether to praise or condemn her is inevitably subject to the risk of judging her by her deeds and misdeeds. Whether I am praised or criticized is beyond my own measure.
This is a factual account, not a general literary work, nor a novel. Therefore, it is presented in its original form,as it is. The book mainly records some of Song Meiling's activities, work, and scenes during the War of Resistance Against Japan. It includes details of her work and activities while chairing the National Women's Guidance Committee and the War-time Children's Protection Society; delicate scenes of her leading prominent ladies on spring outings to support the troops; intimate portrayals of her spending 17 hours consoling wounded soldiers and working tirelessly at night to rescue orphans; touching moments where she is hailed as a "mother" to the orphans; accounts of her family life, including visiting doctors, boiling medicine, hosting home dinners, picnics, and strolling alongside villagers; her candid discussions about her marriage and societal rumors and discussions; her interactions with figures such as Lu Zuofu, Shi Liang, Deng Yingchao, Guo Moruo, and Wu Shifang; her efforts to mediate among military leaders and her confrontations with foreign secret envoys in political and diplomatic affairs; and even historical facts about her rescue of Communist Party members imprisoned in Xinjiang and their subsequent escape from Xi'an, which have never been disclosed before.
