Why do babies spit up?

Patient's question:

I am 36 years old this year, and recently I have been feeling unwell. Sometimes during the day, I feel dizzy, and it has also affected my work. I can't sleep at night, and the medicine I took doesn't seem to work well. Could you please ask why the child is spitting up?

Doctor's answer:

Because the infant's stomach is in a horizontal position, the fundus is flat, making it easy for contents to spill out. Additionally, the stomach capacity is small, and the muscle and nerve development of the stomach wall is immature, with lower muscle tone, all of which can contribute to spitting up. It could also be due to improper feeding methods, such as the infant consuming too much milk, the mother's nipple being inverted, or the baby swallowing large amounts of air when sucking from an empty bottle or teat.
