Features: In 1934, Yu Dafu was commissioned to write an autobiography and published nine autobiographical essays in journals one after another, but the project was abandoned midway and never completed. However, readers should not feel excessive regret. As Yu Dafu himself said, "all his works are like his own prefaces to his life." Reading his other works can also be seen as reading his autobiography. However, when reviewing the Collected Works of Yu Dafu, these self-narrative essays are scattered and disorganized, making it difficult to obtain a clear and systematic impression. Therefore, it is necessary to compile and connect the parts of Yu Dafu's essays, diaries, letters, and essays that concern himself, turning them into a "quasi-autobiography" to supplement the gaps in his actual autobiography. During the selection process, only the main and subheadings were added by the editor, while the rest of the text is entirely selected from Yu Dafu's original works. The editor extensively collected materials from Yu Dafu's various genres of works, striving to present his life experiences, personality, and thoughts in a comprehensive and vivid manner. However, due to the limitations of the original materials and the editor's limited ability, this autobiography inevitably has some parts that are disjointed and some that are inadequately detailed. We kindly ask the readers for their forgiveness and corrections. The main materials for this book were referenced from the Collected Works of Yu Dafu published by Zhejiang Literature and Art Publishing House and the Overseas Works of Yu Dafu published by Sanlian Bookstore, among other books and materials. We express our gratitude here. As a poet and idealist, Yu Dafu was one of the giants of the May Fourth Movement. Only those who lack a soul have never truly been close to him and would judge him based on the surface of his life. Those who have been close to him and have read his works would understand how serious Dafu was about life and how deeply he loved humanity! Dafu is gone! His life is a magnificent and tragic epic, a great loss to China's literary world!
