Patient's question:
I don't know what's going on, but my child has been misbehaving and crying non-stop recently. Even the hospital check-up didn't help. Today, I noticed small red rashes all over their body, and their mouth is also itchy and painful. Could this be hand, foot, and mouth disease?Doctor's answer:
Acute onset, incubation period of 3-5 days, with prodromal symptoms such as low fever, general malaise, and abdominal pain. Painful, lentil-sized vesicles appear on the oral mucosa. Plaques and vesicles appear on the hands and feet, initially as maculopapules, then transforming into vesicles. Round or oval, about 3-7mm in size like rice grains, smaller than chickenpox lesions, with a harder texture, surrounded by a red halo, with less fluid in the vesicles, and point-like or patchy erosion can be seen under the grayish-white membrane.
