Features: When words fail, we use pictures. Modigliano, with humor that warms the heart and black humor that cleanses the mind. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1932, Modigliano began illustrating children's books and cartoons in 1950. In 1960, he moved to New York and created beloved cartoon characters for Paramount Pictures, such as the famous "Popeye" and "Lulu." His works are not only widely popular but also published in many countries. In 1974, he held a solo exhibition in France, and in 1975, he hosted a major solo exhibition in Barcelona, both causing great. Of course, he has also received numerous awards, such as the Silver Medal for International Biennial of Humorous Illustrators in 1967, the Best Children's Book at the Bologna International Book Fair in 1970, and the Argentine Illustrators Association Award in 1974. In 1977, he was nominated as the Best Humorous Illustrator of the Year. Modigliano's illustrations are characterized by smooth lines, bright and elegant colors, and especially his main characters, whether human or animal, have round, funny, and adorable appearances, complete with exaggerated noses, which is why they are so beloved. The master of silent comedy Marcel Marceau once described enjoying Modigliano's paintings as watching a tightly scripted movie, with unexpected surprises coming one after another, tightly combining many unforeseen wonders with absurd logic. Modigliano once said, "Humor is a compliment to despair." That's why in his works, the main characters are often not heroes but ordinary people who don't know how to adapt to the times but are helplessly dissatisfied with reality. For example, a character is annoyed by a small insect while reading a newspaper and steps on it with a foot, only to realize that a giant foot is stepping down on his head. Another interesting example is two people competing to kick a ball. The shorter one knows he can't win against the taller one, so he holds up a bill to distract him. In the end, the shorter one succeeds in getting the ball. Is the bill really that attractive? We're not sure. But when reality shifts into the realm of exaggeration, the absurd world becomes even more real. Let's join in experiencing Modigliano's creative and humorous world!
"Humanity may need another 2,000 years to invent a language that everyone can communicate with." Scientists believe so. But Modigliano said, "I want to invent a humor that doesn't require words or translation, so that the whole world can understand at a glance." He did it! Using only the thoughts and expressions in his illustrations. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1932, Modigliano began drawing picture books in 1950, completed his first animated film in 1952, moved to Lima, Peru, in 1955 to become an art director at an advertising company, moved to New York in 1960 to create "Popeye" and "Lulu" for Paramount Pictures, moved to Paris in 1963 and stayed there for 17 years, and finally moved to Majorca in 1980.
