The Weaver of Marans emphasizes the moral concept of karma. Due to its rigorous structure and delicate psychological portrayal, it is considered one of Eliot's important works. The story begins with the weaver Marans being falsely accused of theft by his friend, leading to the dissolution of his marriage and his forced departure from his hometown. Utterly disillusioned with both God and humanity, Marans becomes resentful, cold, and ruthless, viewing the accumulation of wealth as the essence of life, turning into a complete miser. However, after fifteen years of saving, all his money is stolen, leaving him penniless. As Marans contemplates ending his life, he is changed by the arrival of a three-year-old child. He takes in the abandoned child, and his barren heart gradually becomes enveloped in the warmth of humanity. He rediscovers the meaning of life.
