Just born 20 days, right leg extension is not convenient, what's the situation

Patient's question:

Just born, the right leg and left leg are the same as extended, just these days the newborn's right leg is not extended and basically does not move. If adults forcibly straighten the legs, they will cry.

Doctor's answer:

For infants and young children, attention should be paid to preventing the occurrence of deformities. However, in practice, there are few opportunities to implement preventive measures before deformities are detected. Some severe skeletal injuries have a poor prognosis. In general, once a deformity is discovered, in addition to treating the underlying cause, traction, splints, and braces can be used early to prevent the progression of the deformity and to correct it as much as possible. A simpler method is to fix both legs with splints during early childhood and then bind them together with bandages.
In non-surgical therapy, it is suitable for mild genu valgum with still a considerable range of motion in the joints. This includes thigh muscle massage, combined with manual manipulation and orthopedic braces. For children, plaster splints or cylindrical ones can be used to gradually correct the deformity, followed by long-term use of braces to prevent recurrence. Massage the thigh muscles, especially the medial muscles, including the quadriceps and sartorius, and combine it with active exercises. This can strengthen the antagonist muscles of the knee. Through passive and active movements, the contracted soft tissues on the lateral side are stretched, stimulating the growth of the epiphysis and guiding development toward normal.
