How to deal with water entering a baby's ear

Patient's question:

Hello, my baby is two months old. His ears have gotten water in them a few times while bathing. Currently, the baby has no symptoms, but I'm just worried. I'm asking the experts!!! Thank you

Doctor's answer:

Dear Parent,
When water enters a baby's ear, immediately tilt the baby's head toward the side where the water entered and gently remove the water with a sterile cotton ball (stick), then dry it thoroughly. Cotton swabs can usually only clean the outer part of the ear. Be careful and gentle when performing these actions to avoid damaging the eardrum.
Additionally, if water gets into the ear during swimming or bathing, it will usually drain out on its own in most cases. If there is water accumulation in the inner ear, seek immediate medical attention for specialized treatment.
