How to treat enuresis in children

Patient's question:

My son is 8 years old and wets the bed almost every day. He doesn't wake up when called at night and is drowsy. His penis is very small, and he urinates in small amounts each time. The frequency is short and urgent. We've had a urine test, and the results were normal. The doctor prescribed Shuquan Wan, but it hasn't helped. I really don't know what to do. How should it be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Bedwetting, also known as enuresis, refers to the inability of a child to control urination after falling asleep, resulting in involuntary bedwetting. Habitual enuresis can weaken the child, interfere with physical health and intellectual development, and cause frustration for the family. If it is caused by a medical condition, the condition should be treated first. Reduce the amount of salt in dinner, limit water and soup intake. Prevent children from becoming overly excited before taking a nap and encourage them to empty their bladders before getting into bed for a nap. Training children to hold urine during the day can also be an effective method. Whenever the urge to urinate arises, actively control it and delay urination for a few minutes at first, gradually increasing the duration over time.
