Can hand, foot, and mouth disease patients take a bath?

Patient's question:

Your baby's hands and feet have developed many blisters, so you went to the hospital for a routine examination. The doctor said it was hand, foot, and mouth disease. Therefore, you want to understand specifically whether hand, foot, and mouth disease can be treated with a bath?

Doctor's answer:

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is an infectious disease caused by enteroviruses, which can lead to blisters on the hands, feet, and mouth, accompanied by fever. Without complications, it usually heals within about 7 days. Bathing is allowed, and children should drink more water. Oral vitamin C, vitamin B2, ribavirin, and Shuanghuanglian can be taken. Before and after meals, use physiological saline to rinse the mouth. Children who cannot wash their faces can gently clean their mouths with cotton swabs soaked in physiological saline to prevent transmission. For oral ulcers, use spray, montmorillonite powder, tin powder, or bismuth powder to apply to the oral ulcers. Calamine lotion can be applied to initial skin rashes and unresolved scars. For rashes or scar ulcers, apply 0.5% povidone-iodine. Always keep the skin clean to prevent transmission.
