Can chondritis of the auricular cartilage cause facial paralysis?

Patient's question:

Last week, my ear was a bit inflamed, so I got some medicine and have been taking it. But this morning, I noticed my face was a bit stiff, and it was hard to blink my eyes. When I went for a check-up, they said it was facial paralysis. Can otitis externa lead to facial paralysis?

Doctor's answer:

This is absolutely not the case. Bell's palsy is primarily caused by facial nerve damage. In such cases, it is absolutely not possible to cause this condition. Under sterile conditions, needle aspiration is performed, followed by the instillation of (hardening agents). To prevent the occurrence of fluid accumulation, local drainage and rebandaging should be done. Additionally, after aspiration, liquid nitrogen can be used for cryotherapy. Most patients only need 1-2 cryotherapy sessions to fully recover. Magnetic therapy and shortwave diathermy can also be used in combination for treatment.
