What tests are needed for a baby with rickets?

Patient's question:

My baby is now 4 years old. I think he is a bit hunched, but I'm not sure. Is there any way to make a few guesses? Is there any way to alleviate it?

Doctor's answer:

The main feature of rickets is the incomplete calcification of the cartilage plate and bone tissue in the metaphyseal region of long bones. The high-risk population for this disease is children under 2 years old, especially infants aged 3 to 18 months, which can be prevented by consuming sufficient vitamin D. It is usually detected during physical examinations and can also manifest as hypocalcemic seizures, growth retardation, irritability, or an increased susceptibility to respiratory infections in infancy. Three tests can confirm rickets: 1. X-ray examination, wrist X-rays are the primary basis for diagnosis and staging, as they can reveal the degree of skeletal changes, but subtle early changes are not easily identified. 2. Blood biochemical tests, which only assess the recent nutritional status of vitamin D in the body. 3. BAKP level tests, which provide early diagnosis and can be taken simultaneously with a complete blood count.
