Features: This is a work of the "angry young men" genre. John Anouilh-Lewis works in a library, lives in poverty, and considers himself charming. He becomes involved with Elizabeth, the wife of the man who decides his promotion, while also feeling guilty about his wife, Gin. When he learns that he got the job due to political maneuvering by the upper class, he resolves not to be a pawn in others' games and decides to take his wife "on the run" to his father's place. However, soon after, he encounters the seduction of another woman. The book is full of witty remarks and British-style humor, making readers laugh while also prompting deep reflection.
