Is laughing without communication considered idiotic?

Patient's question:

Doctor, there is a little boy next door, who has already turned three and a month old this year. But when I saw him, I noticed something different about him. The reason is that he sometimes laughs foolishly and doesn't like to communicate with others. Is he mentally retarded? His mother doesn't take him to the hospital for a thorough examination.

Doctor's answer:

Boys generally have slower development of language centers but better aggression, start walking earlier, and are highly operational. This is a characteristic of boys' growth and development. When communicating with a three-year-old boy, he will understand your intentions and then act on his own, or he may ignore you and play on his own. However, he rarely uses language for communication. This is normal. If he cannot understand others' intentions, it may indicate a potential intellectual issue.
