Had a facial paralysis for a month, how should it be treated?

Patient's question:

A 6-month-old baby cannot lift their head, can roll over, and has a normal appetite, with no significant abnormalities, but sometimes they shake. They have had facial paralysis for a month. How should it be treated?

Doctor's answer:

If Bell's palsy is treated systematically, it generally begins to recover completely within 1 to 2 weeks, with significant improvement in symptoms within 1 to 2 months. Approximately 2/3 of patients can recover completely. If there is no complete recovery within 6 months, the likelihood of full recovery is low, and residual sequelae may remain. Treatment methods can include acupuncture, infrared irradiation, shortwave diathermy, or local cold compresses. Daily exercises should focus on enhancing facial muscle function, local physical therapy, and can be supplemented with treatments such as cold compresses behind the ear, spectral irradiation, or herbal hot compresses. During treatment, avoid smoking, alcohol, spicy foods, and other irritating substances to prevent wind-cold.
