Is a 4-year-old boy's teething considered precocious puberty?

Patient's question:

Is it too early for a child to lose their teeth prematurely? My child lost their first tooth at 4 years and 10 months old. Now the second tooth is also loose. Is it too early now?

Doctor's answer:

It is precocious, but it is not necessarily precocious gonal treatment. The gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist currently given is the most effective treatment for true precocious puberty. This drug can upregulate GnRH receptors on the surface of GnRH-producing cells, increasing the excretion of sex hormones and reducing their bioactivity. It is the most effective, but it is often used in heavier children when puberty exceeds four to five stages, or when menstruation occurs.
