Features: "Speak Up for Yourself" was written based on an early course designed for adults. The course is called "Emotion and Self-Esteem" and is currently a course for undergraduate students in the Department of Psychology at Michigan State University. We have rewritten the materials of this course and compiled it into this book so that children aged 8-12 can learn it independently. Proper self-esteem is one of the most important abilities to be cultivated in order to achieve success in society. Having self-esteem means being proud of oneself and feeling a sense of pride from within. Without self-esteem, children may doubt themselves, crumble under peer pressure, feel worthless or inferior, and may even develop bad habits like drug abuse and alcoholism as a result. With self-esteem, children will feel a sense of security in their hearts, become more adventurous, be more likely to take responsibility for their actions, better cope with the changes and challenges of life, and have the courage to face rejection, disappointment, failure, and setbacks.
