Features: I didn’t intend to build a monument for gangsters or old-timers, but simply wanted to honor my friends, record the restless youth and traces of youth. My friends weren’t heroes; at best, they were a group of bloodthirsty marginal teenagers. They lived, loved, and fought. I believe they deserve to be remembered. I wrote a book, which is the one you see now. This story was originally serialized online, starting in February 2003. At that time, I was assigned to work in a remote location, giving me some time to reflect and think. When it was loaded for the second time, it unexpectedly received praise from many netizens, and my vanity swelled, leading me to overestimate myself. So, shamelessly and with gritted teeth, I persevered and finally completed it. The response this story generated was exactly as I had hoped: quickly forgotten by those who read it, yet widely circulated online. I once tried to express, with my clumsy writing, the growth, memories, friendships, beliefs, and idealism that had once existed in my heart, unintentionally glorifying and mythologizing them. This was the original intention behind telling this story, but the outcome was far from satisfactory.
I want to tell you, I'm not worthy to be your brother.
