Mr. Fu Lei wrote in a letter to Fu Cong and Mina: "It seems you have already achieved considerable literary refinement and no further guidance is needed. I only want to recommend one book, hoping you can draw benefits from it, especially in the aspect of the art of life. Taine's Art Philosophy not only offers scientific insights into aesthetics but is also a general overview of art history. It does not adopt the form of a typical textbook but instead uses profound and extensive insights to point out the main trends of artistic development. Reading it is both fascinating and rewarding, offering new inspiration. If you can fully digest it, there will be progress not only in knowledge but also in character, demeanor, understanding, and comprehension. To help Fu Cong and Mina understand this masterpiece, Fu Lei specially copied the third chapter "Greek Sculpture" and added detailed annotations, binding it into a book. This edition will include all of Fu Lei's annotations, which is expected to be very convenient for readers. // Originally, this book was accompanied by 104 illustrations. Considering that such publications have become widespread in recent years and readers can easily access them, the illustrations are no longer included in this edition, though their titles are listed for reference.
