Features: With the continuous deepening of educational system reform, promoting the integration of education and research, and embodying the dual functions of university talent cultivation and academic research, have become the mainstream of China's higher education development. In terms of management, since 2001, when the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) became a directly affiliated institution of the Ministry of Education, the university leadership has repeatedly emphasized the need to align the school's work with the "mainstream." This means improving teaching, accelerating talent cultivation, while further increasing investment in research, fostering a positive academic atmosphere, driving the update of teaching content through research, and ensuring the innovation and development of discipline construction. At the same time, it is necessary to maximize the direct service of these research outcomes to society, promoting China's economic development.
To implement the above educational philosophy, the School of Foreign Languages at the University of International Business and Economics has been actively exploring reforms in teaching management while striving to improve teaching quality, further intensifying its efforts in research to align research with the mainstream, achieving remarkable results. For example, leveraging the traditional strengths of the School of Foreign Languages in foreign language and literature research, significant breakthroughs have been made in applying for national and ministerial-level research projects, publishing monographs, and writing academic papers.
Utilizing the Regional and National Studies Institute at the University of International Business and Economics as a platform, and taking advantage of the school's diverse language offerings and broad coverage of countries and regions, research has been expanded into the politics, economy, and culture of relevant nations and regions. In 2004, the institute published the collection of essays Foreign Language, Literature, and Regional and National Studies in Politics, Economy, and Culture.
Now, presented to you is this collection of essays, which represents the latest achievements of the faculty at the School of Foreign Languages following the 2004 collection. After one year of effort, it includes research on the languages, literatures, cultures of various countries, as well as regional and national political and economic studies. Not only is the research field extensive, but new attempts have also been made in research methods and approaches.
