Features: "China's Character: Grand Mansions" collects 10 traditional ancient residences that remain today, along with interviews with 7 contemporary architectural masters. It is both an exploration of China's residential cultural heritage and an examination of the application of Chinese character in contemporary architectural practice. The book has three distinctive qualities:
1. A perspective that bridges the past and the present, with a focus on the future;
2. Emphasis on existing materials, even more so on first-hand materials (nearly 300 photos in the book are selected from thousands of photographs taken on-site);
3. Examining tradition and understanding it through contemporary practices and case studies of architectural works.
